Exhibition Date: 15 June –31 July 2026

Kate Contemporary presents “Elements of Memories”, a visual archive of the human psyche. The collection leads viewers into the formative experiences that shape adult identities. Featuring the oil on canvas works of Valerie Chua, Jep Dizon, Kim Oliveros and Garryloid Pomoy, the exhibit’s variety of subjects pieces together the fragmented, fleeting nature of nostalgia. It invites viewers to step into a collective consciousness where the boundaries between past reality and subconscious imagination blur.

Valerie Chua’s evocative works highlight the presence of the subconscious and almost mystical in memories while Jep Dizon’s surrealist piece is a reminder of the contrast of clarity and vagueness among memories. Kim Oliveros’ renderings of origami amidst natural settings highlight constructed recollection and the fluidity of nostalgia. Finally Garryloid Pomoy’s depictions of the stitched trapo made of scrap pieces of cloth denote the piecing together of fragile, scattered memories in order to reconstruct a narrative of the past.

“Elements of Memories” treats nostalgia as a free viewers from the cynicism of adulthood by blurring the line between hard past realities and fluid subconscious landscapes, challenging how we face our own histories.
